Woodland Center’s mission is to support the recovery of all people by doing what it takes to understand each other better, learn more, grow, and inspire change in our communities. This includes dedication to the professionals in the mental health field becoming competent and ethical workers. Woodland Centers is happy to consider playing a role in the educational needs of the future mental health staff at a variety of educational levels.
To be eligible for placement students must:
- Be degree seeking in an accredited program in social work, psychology, nursing, counseling, advanced practice medical professional or other behavioral health related program.

- Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner: Minnesota Board of Nursing

- Receive educational credit toward the above-identified degree(s).
- Be able to receive compensation for educational hours completed with the agency.
Submit the following to the Training Supervisor by email :
- Letter of Request, including description of the type of experience sought and area(s) of interest
- Resume or CV
- Summary of Educational Institution Requirements for Internship/Practicum [note: students not receiving course credit toward a degree cannot be considered for placement]
Requests that fit within the educational opportunities available may be offered an interview.
Potential placement opportunities include:
- Bachelor’s/Master’s Foundation
- Youth Day Treatment
- Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS)
- Residential Crisis
- Must be at least 21 years of age or older per Statute.
- Behavioral Health Homes (BHH)
- Substance Use Programs (for ADC only)
- Master’s
- School Linked Behavioral Health – Provide individual and group therapy to students in one of the participating school buildings. Engage in family therapy after school hours as needed.
- Outpatient Mental Health (Adults and Youth) – Provide individual, group, family or couples therapy in an office based setting, in person or via telehealth.
- Psychiatry (Adults and Youth) – Advance Practice nursing students may engage in medication management or participate in co-therapy with a Mental Health Professional.
No exception will be made to the timelines below unless under extreme circumstances. Please contact the training supervisor if you wish to submit requests outside of the below outlined periods.

If accepted for placement at Woodland Centers, you will be required to provide the following information prior to your start date:
- Proof of malpractice/liability insurance. This may be a personal policy or provided by the educational institution.
- Proof against accident/illness, such as a personal illness/disability policy or health insurance coverage.
- Proof of coursework successfully completed toward degree completion. This may be an unofficial transcript or similar document.
- 1 Work/Educational reference and 1-2 Personal references.
- Successfully pass the required Minnesota background check.
All students will be assigned a start date of the First OR Third Monday of the month for New Hire Orientation to the agency. Start date will be finalized after confirmation of placement.
